UCAT ANZ Explained

What is UCAT ANZ?

UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia & New Zealand) is the version of the UCAT used for medicine, dentistry and health-science admissions across Australia and New Zealand.

It has the same four core subtests and scoring logic as the UK UCAT, but UCAT ANZ has a separate consortium, booking system, test window and fee structure. If your target university is in Australia or New Zealand, registration is through the ANZ Consortium.

The three cognitive subtests combine for a score between 900 and 2,700, while the Situational Judgement Test is reported as a band from 1 to 4. Each subtest is separately timed, so time saved in one section does not carry over to another.

The key challenge: UCAT ANZ rewards candidates who can maintain accuracy while working quickly. That is why subtest-specific timed drills, full mocks and performance analysis are central to our preparation strategy.

UCAT ANZ Exam Format

UCAT ANZ runs four separately timed subtests in one sitting of just under two hours. The three cognitive subtests combine for the cognitive score, while Situational Judgement is reported separately as a band.

Subtest What It Measures Questions Time
Verbal Reasoning Critical evaluation of written information. 44 22 min
Decision Making Logical and statistical reasoning, argument strength. 29 32 min
Quantitative Reasoning Numerical problem-solving with on-screen calculator. 36 25 min
Situational Judgement Test Understanding real-world clinical and training scenarios. 69 27 min
Important: There is a short optional break between subtests, but each section is independently timed. Time saved in one subtest does not carry over to the next.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to common questions about UCAT preparation and Mentor Educare.

Yes. Mentor Educare runs dedicated UCAT ANZ batches separate from the UK UCAT track, with ANZ-specific mock scoring and preparation aligned to Australia and New Zealand admissions.
There are four subtests: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and the Situational Judgement Test. Abstract Reasoning was removed from the UCAT starting in 2025.
The cognitive score ranges from 900 to 2,700. Around 1,980+ can be competitive at many universities, while highly selective medical schools can attract applicants with substantially higher scores. Requirements vary by university and admissions cycle.
Candidates generally have one UCAT sitting per admissions cycle. This makes realistic mock tests, timing practice and score analysis particularly important.
Mentor Educare focuses primarily on UCAT test preparation. Our preparation timeline can be coordinated with the UCAS application process so that your UCAT preparation and application deadlines are planned together.
