The Enhanced ACT is the current version of the American College Testing exam used for undergraduate admissions. Starting nationally in the US in 2025, it replaces the legacy 215-question, three-hour ACT format.
The current ACT has three required sections — English, Math and Reading — plus optional Science and Writing sections. English, Math and Reading make up the Composite score on a 1–36 scale, averaged across the three required sections.
Science is optional and does not count toward the Composite, even when taken, although it produces its own score and contributes to a separate STEM score alongside Math. Writing remains an optional essay for colleges that specifically require it.
The Enhanced ACT has three required sections and two optional sections. English, Math and Reading determine the Composite score; Science produces a separate score and STEM score contribution, while Writing is reported separately.
