Description
The New Zealand Parent Visa category forms
part of New Zealand's family sponsored migration stream. The
Parent Visa is designed to help applicants who want to migrate
to New Zealand and who have an adult child who is a New
Zealand citizen or resident.
Eligibility Criteria
People wanting to migrate to New Zealand may
be granted residence under the Family Parent Visa category
if:
They are sponsored by an adult child who
is 17 years of age of over and is a New Zealand citizen
or resident; and
Their family's 'centre of gravity' is in New
Zealand.
As the principal Parent Visa applicant, a
family's 'centre of gravity' is in New Zealand if:
Where you have no dependent children -
you have an equal or greater number of adult children
living lawfully and permanently in New Zealand than any
other single country, including your home country; or
Where you do have dependent children - you have an
equal or greater number of adult children living
lawfully and permanently in New Zealand than in any
other single country, including your home country. The
number of your dependent children must be the same as,
or less than, then number of adult children living
lawfully and permanently in New
Zealand.
Sponsorship
Requirements
To sponsor you under this policy, your
child must:
Be 17 years of age or over; and
Be in New Zealand; and
Be a New Zealand or Australian citizen or the holder
of a current Residence Permit; and
Have been resident in New Zealand for at least three
years and have been in New Zealand for at least 184 days
per year in each of those three years.
Your sponsor must also make a legal declaration that
they will provide you with financial support and
accommodation (if necessary) for at least the first two
years of your residence in New Zealand.
Under parent policy, 'children of
the principal applicant' include:
All biological or adopted children of the principal
applicant; and
Any child of the principal applicant's spouse or de
facto partner (whether or not the spouse or de facto
partner is included in the application), if that child
has lived as part of the principal applicant's family
unit for a predominant period of the child's life
between the time their relationship with the principal
applicant began and when the child turned 17 years of
age.
Additional Information
If you are migrating to New Zealand with
children from a previous relationship then you will need
permission from their other parent that you may take them out
of the country. This can be in the form of a statutory
declaration confirming that they have no objections to
this.
Additional Requirements
In addition to the minimum requirements
outlined above, basic standards of health and character must
be met.
In addition to the criteria above, New Zealand
Investor Visa applicants must have basic standards of English
language, health and character that must be met in order to
lodge a successful New Zealand Investor visa
application.
