TEMPORARY RESIDENCE - SOCIAL CULTURAL
Temporary residence visas allow
people to live or work in Australia for a limited time, for
example as entertainers, religious workers and those seeking
further training in their occupational field. Most subclasses
require sponsorship by an Australian organization, which must
be approved by a DIMA office in Australia.
Main
types of social/cultural temporary residence
visa
Religious
Workers
The religious worker visa provides
for the temporary stay of religious workers including
ministers, priests and spiritual leaders to serve the
spiritual needs of people of their faith in Australia.
Visiting
Academics
The visiting academic visa provides
for the temporary stay of people whose presence in Australia
will contribute to the sharing of research knowledge.
Entertainers
The entertainment visa provides for
the temporary stay of people involved in a wide range of
social and cultural activities, including singers, actors,
dancers, directors, producers and other supporting staff.
Please note that film crews traveling to Australia to shoot
part or all of a feature film should apply under this
category.
Sports People
The sport visa provides for the
temporary stay of amateur or professional sports people at the
elite level, including coaches, judges and adjudicators, to
engage in competition with Australian residents and to improve
general sporting standards in Australia through high caliber
competition and training.
Non-elite sports people should apply
for long stay business visas or short stay business visas
depending on their intended length of stay in Australia.
Medical
Practitioners
The medical practitioner visa
provides for the temporary stay of suitably qualified medical
practitioners where there is a demonstrated need to employ
practitioners from overseas.
Occupational
Trainees
The occupational trainee visa
provides for the temporary stay of people to undertake
supervised, structured training that is workplace-based rather
than classroom-based. The training must be compatible with the
applicant's employment history.
Accompanying family members
(spouse and dependent children) may be included in the
application at no extra
charge.
