AUSTRALIA VISITOR
VISA
Tourists and Family
Visitors
The Visitor visa provides for a stay
in Australia for a period of up to twelve months for tourism
and other recreational activities including holiday,
sightseeing, social or recreational reasons, to visit
relatives or friends, or other short-term non-work purposes
including study. If you intend to study in Australia for more
than 3 months you should apply for a student visa.
Processing
Times
Most visitor visa applications can
be processed in 3 days. However it is advisable to lodge your
application 3 weeks before you intend to travel.
Processing times vary according to
workload and season. Delays may occur where
:
The application form is not
properly completed;
All the requested
documents are not submitted;
Medical examinations are
required or referred to Australia for clearance;
Applicants are requested to
provide further documentation or attend an interview;
or
You have previously been
refused a visa.
Although a personal interview
is not generally required, it may be required in some
cases and you will be advised if and when to attend for
interview.
Health
Requirement
Applicants who will likely be
involved in health care or entering a hospital-type
environment in Australia (including nursing homes) as
either a patient, visitor, employee, trainee or medical
or non-medical staff are required to undergo a chest
x-ray if 11 years or older, regardless of the length of
time they intend to be in that hospital or health care
area.
Applicants who
intend to study in a class-room environment for a period
greater than 4 weeks are required to undergo a chest
x-ray if 11 years or older.
Visitors 70 years or over are
required, as a minimum, to obtain a medical report of
“fitness” from an authorized doctor regardless of the
period of stay they are seeking or their country of
health risk.
