 |
| It is a mandatory procedure; if you
are going to apply for a General Skilled Migration visa then
you should nominate an occupation that is on the Skilled
Occupation List (SOL) at the time you apply. The Skilled
Occupation List lists all eligible occupations for General
Skilled Migration, and the number of points awarded for
each. |
| To lodge a valid General
Skilled Migration application, you must do one of the
following : |
 |
If you are applying for a
General Skilled Migration visa that can only be granted
while you are outside Australia, you must provide
completed skills assessment from the relevant assessing
authority for your nominated occupation with your
application. |
 |
If you are
applying for a General Skilled Migration visa that can
be granted while you are in Australia, you must make a
declaration that you have applied to have your skills
assessed by the relevant assessing authority for your
nominated occupation when you make your
application. |
 |
If you are applying for one
of the Onshore New Zealand Citizen visas, you must
provide a skill assessment from the relevant assessing
authority for your nominated occupation, which shows
that your skills have been assessed as suitable for your
nominated occupation. You must provide this with your
application. |
 |
If you are applying for a
Skilled Independent Regional (Provisional) (subclass
495) visa that can be granted while you are in
Australia, you must declare that you have applied to
have your skills assessed by the relevant assessing
authority for your nominated occupation when you make
your application. |
 |
If you are applying for a
Skilled Independent Regional (Provisional) (subclass
495) visa that can be granted while you are outside
Australia, you must declare that you have a completed
skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority
for your nominated occupation when you make your
application. To support your declaration, attach this
skills assessment to your
application. | |
| Regardless of which General Skilled
Migration visa you apply for, you must provide evidence that
your skills have been assessed as suitable for your nominated
occupation by the relevant assessing authority for your
nominated occupation before your visa can be granted. |
| Skills assessments for
subclass 138 applicants |
| If you are applying for a Skilled –
Australian Sponsored (subclass 138) visa, and your sponsor is
living in Sydney, Gosford, Newcastle or Wollongong, you must
nominate an occupation that is on the Sydney and Selected
Areas Skilled Shortage List (SSASSL). |
| In order to make a valid application
you must submit a completed skills assessment from the
relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation
with your application. To be granted a visa, your skills must
have been assessed as suitable for your nominated
occupation. |
| It is your responsibility to contact
the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation
and obtain skills assessment. Each assessing authority has its
own assessment procedures, timeframes and charges. You are
strongly advised to contact the relevant assessing authority
well before you intend to lodge your application to arrange
your skills assessment. |
| Post-secondary qualifications are
required In almost all cases, assessing bodies will require
that you have post-secondary, such as university or trade,
qualifications in order to receive a positive assessment of
your skills. |
| In a small number of occupations,
substantial relevant work experience may be acceptable. Each
assessing authority will be able to advise you on what the
qualification requirements are for the occupations they
assess. |
| Skills assessment validity
dates |
| Some assessing authorities may
impose a validity date on a skills assessment. If your
assessment is only valid for a certain period, you will need
to ensure that your application is lodged within this
timeframe. |
| Assessing authorities role
in finding you employment in Australia |
| Assessing authorities are
responsible for undertaking skills assessments for migration
purposes and are not employment agencies. The assessing
authorities will not reply to requests for job placement. They
cannot give advice on the allocation of points or the likely
success of your General Skilled Migration application. |
| Submitting more than one
skills Assessment |
| You can only have one nominated
occupation in your migration application. Prior to lodging
your migration application, you may, however, apply to any
number of skills assessing authorities until you obtain
suitable skills assessment. |
