The Skilled – Independent
Regional (Provisional) visa- SIR-495
If you are unable to meet the
passmark for a permanent visa and wish to live and work in a
regional or low population growth metropolitan area in
Australia. You must still be assessed against the points test
and meet the Skilled – Independent Regional (Provisional) visa
passmark. The Skilled – Independent Regional (Provisional)
visa passmark is slightly lower than for the permanent Skilled
– Independent visas. You must also have skills that are in
demand in the State or Territory where you wish to live, as
you are required to have sponsorship from that State or
Territory before you can apply.
The Skilled – Independent Regional
(Provisional) visa is a 'provisional' visa. Once you have
complied with the visa's conditions and have lived for at
least 2 years, and worked for a minimum of at least 12 months,
in a regional or low population growth metropolitan area in
Australia, you are eligible to apply for a permanent regional
visa. Criteria for these visas have been modified, and in some
cases waived, to facilitate visa grant.
'Regional Australia' and
'low population growth metropolitan areas'
For the Skilled – Independent
Regional (Provisional) visa, 'regional Australia' or a 'low
population growth metropolitan area' means anywhere in
Australia except in :
Sydney, Newcastle,
Wollongong and the Central Coast in New South
Wales
Brisbane and the Gold Coast in
Queensland
Perth in Western Australia
Melbourne in Victoria
The Australian Capital
Territory.
To be able to migrate under
one of the these skilled migration categories
You must be below 45 years
of age
Have good English (need to take the
IELTS test)
Your occupation must be in the 'Skilled
Occupation List' and successfully assessed by a skill
assessment body
You should have recent work experience
Skilled
Independent
If you do not have a blood relative
in Australia, this would be the most suitable category for
you. You need to score a minimum of 100 points in the points
test to be eligible to apply.
Points are given
for:-
Age,
Occupation,
English language ability,
Work experience,
Spouse skills,
Australian educational qualification and
Occupation in
demand.
You may also be eligible for bonus
points if you have Australian work experience, knowledge in a
community language of Australia or if you are prepared to
invest in Australia.
